It is to be made note of here that reason and representation were not critiqued solely in his post-modern works, but had a similar treatment in Libidinal Economy to begin with. And this work was before he took the post- modern turn. The difference in his treatment of representation in the earlier work was not nihilistic in nature, but narcissistic, or in other words, it did not deal with how representation was unable to close off the gulf between itself and reality, but on how representation was more introspective in its own dealings.
